Whether you've been shooting photographs for years or just starting, you'll find many helpful tips and tricks in this comprehensive class. We will be examining both the technical and artistic sides of photography. Those two aspects of photography intertwine and the more you understand both, the more you'll enjoy photography for years to come. Regardless of the type of photography you're interested in, the class will help you get more out of your camera and will help you take pictures you'll be proud to hang on your wall or post online. You'll learn from an instructor who has been formally trained, has 40 years photo experience and over 15 years classroom experience. You'll find this class helpful, fun and informative.

In this class we will be examining both the technical aspects and aesthetics of composition, exposure and lighting. No matter what area of photography you're interested in, this class will present the tools and tricks of photography to help you do it better. Perhaps you'd like to take better pictures of your friends and family or vacations. We will discuss: formal and candid portraiture, available/ambient light as well as controlled lighting. You might want to know how to get better sports shots. Maybe you're interested in wildlife, scenic, close-up/macro or abstract photography. Covering all these and more, there will also be project suggestions week by week. Time will be allotted in sessions two through five for a "Master Class" photo critique for any classmate who wants to get constructive guidance on their photography or just wants to learn from observing others who submit their work for review.

This class in whole is six sessions on six consecutive weeks. The class is designed to be taken in whole, as each session builds on each other. The tuition for the whole class is only $150 for 18 hours of expert classroom instruction.

Have time constraints? You may attend individual sessions instead of the series. It's your choice, however we recommend taking the series because of the building block nature of the class. Individual sessions only $45 for 3 hours of classroom instruction.

Session 1 - Equipment
Thursday Feb 23* or Saturday Feb 25**

Camera types, Lenses, Support, Flash and Lighting, are what we'll be discussing here. You are encouraged to bring your equipment and manuals, questions on what you need or may eventually want, to this session. We will discuss what is available, what you'll need now and what you may want to set your sights on.

Session 2 - Composition Basics and Beyond Pt 1
Thursday March 1* or Saturday March 3**

Session 3 - Composition Basics and Beyond Pt 2
Thursday March 8* or Saturday March 10**

Learn the classic rules of composition, how and why to use them. These are not unique to photography but are the secrets to invoking the "artful eye". Some say you can't teach the "artful eye". However if you'll embrace and practice these "rules" you'll find that's not true, as you'll either find or improve your "artful eye". Also discussed will be the more subtle aspects of the Art of Photography. Including but not limited to color, form and structure as well as the art of Black and White where form and structure are everything.

Session 4 - The Art and Science of Exposure
Thursday March 15* or Saturday March 17**

In this session you'll learn how to understand exposure and use it to enhance you images. Both the art and science of each element of exposure will be covered. By the end of this session you should be able to take control of any or all of the elements and take your photography to the next level and beyond.

Session 5 - Lighting
Thursday March 22* or Saturday March 24**

Light is what makes photography possible. This class will discuss the light descriptors: Quality, Quantity, Color and Direction. Styles of lighting and lighting terms are also discussed. You will be encouraged to bring your camera and tripod as the second half of this class will be devoted to studio shooting. If you've never used studio lights before, you'll find this fun and exciting. If you have, you learn how to refine you lighting skills.

Session 6 - Time Exposures
Thursday March 29* or Saturday March 31**

Learn the fun and powerful technique of "Painting with Light". Then for the evening class, weather permitting, we'll do some outdoor night photography. In case of inclement weather we'll explore some fun indoor time exposure projects. Don't forget your camera and tripod because you want to join the fun. For the afternoon class, we'll do some indoor table top time exposure. Then go outside and do some location shooting at a location decided by the class in session one.

*Thursday classes meet from 7pm ‘til 10pm **Saturday classes meet from 1pm ‘til 4pm

If you have more questions about this class or sessions you are encouraged to contact the instructor to discuss how this class may benefit you.
